In keeping with tradition, the facades of Parisian department stores (Printemps Haussmann, Galeries Lafayette, BHV) are adorned with the most stunning festive decorations. As well as street lights and decorations around the city, department store windows are filled with Christmas trees, darting fireflies and gift-wrapped parcels.
Shop windows also put on a show with amazing theatre sets featuring animated figures and magical decor in an interactive world … great fun to watch! Enchanting universes, devised and created by gifted artists and designers, are still a source of wonder for both children and grown-ups.
Don't forget to go see them while in Paris, it is a magical moment to get in the Christmas spirit!
From November 8 to 11, 2017, an incredible event is held in front of Notre-Dame de Paris! In order to celebrate the centenary of WWI, Parisians and tourists can attend a breathtaking light and sound show called “Dame de Coeur” for free. There is no more availability but you can admire the show from the street across the cathedral.
As the days shorten and autumn turns to winter, the Nuit Blanche event in Paris offers an opportunity to see the city in a new light. For once special night, the city's streets are teeming with people of all ages, lit by moonlight and by strange lights, works of art become the focal point.
On the first Saturday in October, artists take over various areas of the city, with installations, exhibitions, street art, light and sound shows, concerts, performances, trails, staged scenes and creations exploring all facets of contemporary art.
Public transport stays open throughout the night so that spectators can create their own routes among the dozens of avant-garde projects put in place by international and home-grown artists. The Nuit Blanche was first organised in 2002, and, much like the Fête de la Musique, is a concept which has been taken up by other cities in France and in other countries, its popularity spreading all around the world, proof of its popularity and its relevance today. As the days shorten and autumn turns to winter, the Nuit Blanche event in Paris offers an opportunity to see the city in a new light.
