Chagall, Lissitzky, Malévitch. L'avant-garde russe à Vitebsk (1918-1922) - Exhibition

The exhibition devoted by the Centre Pompidou to the Russian avant-garde between 1918 and 1922 focuses on the work of three of its iconic figures: Marc Chagall, El Lissitzky and Kasimir Malevich. It also presents works by teachers and students of the Vitebsk art school founded in 1918 by Chagall: Vera Ermolayeva, Nicolai Suetin, Ilya Chachnik, Lazar Khidekel and David Yakerson.

Through 250 works and documents never seen together before, this event sheds light for the first time on the post-revolutionary years during which the history of art was written in Vitebsk, a long way from Russia's big cities.

Exhibition until July 16th, 2018

Public transport stays open throughout the night so that spectators can create their own routes among the dozens of avant-garde projects put in place by international and home-grown artists. The Nuit Blanche was first organised in 2002, and, much like the Fête de la Musique, is a concept which has been taken up by other cities in France and in other countries, its popularity spreading all around the world, proof of its popularity and its relevance today. As the days shorten and autumn turns to winter, the Nuit Blanche event in Paris offers an opportunity to see the city in a new light.
